DER GREIF is an award-winning organization for contemporary photography. It is print-publication, online-publication, curatorial team and joint project all at once. The artistic core and root of the project is the ad-free print-publication. It combines and presents the works of photographers and authors of different origins in a holistic piece of art.

Redesigned and newly conceived Issue 11 available now!

For issue 11, Der Greif has invited Jason Fulford, American photographer, artist and publisher of J&L Books as guest editor. Sourcing from our archive of past submissions, Fulford’s edit takes us on an eclectic tour through diverse visual languages. There are sixty-seven photographers and one writer represented in this volume. The text is an excerpted from a famous 19th century novel. We want to thank everybody who contributed to this issue with their past submission!

After 10 years and 10 print issues, Der Greif has decided to explore new territories and to change its appearance. In our future issues, we invite guest editors to work with the same concepts of de- and recontextualizing single images through their individual working methods.

We changed the new issue’s format and layout, in order to break from our habits, routines and history and to stay true to our goal of being able to constantly evolve and adapt to modes of presentation that are timely.

Jason Fulford is a photographer and co-founder of J&L Books. He is a Guggenheim Fellow and a frequent lecturer at universities. His monographs include Crushed, Raising Frogs for $$$, and The Mushroom Collector. He is co-author with Tamara Shopsin of the photobook for children, This Equals That, and co-editor with Gregory Halpern of The Photographer’s Playbook.
