Some Magazine #10 – Fire

A magazine between Design and Art – Bilingual: German/English

Fire, the unloved element. While all our sympathies fly unchecked to the three other primordial substances, i.e. earth, water and air, fire looks into an uncertain future. The smoke of combustion engines, burning forests, bombs and grenades in wars everywhere and behind every cloud lurks a sunburn. These are only the most obvious examples of a thoroughly outmoded element. Yet over thousands of years, mankind has actually learned something else: to preserve fire and to use the power it gave us. There is probably no more magical feeling in the collective memory of mankind than that of security around the blazing fire around which our ancestors gathered

For this issue of Some Magazine, we visited the ilio studio in London on the theme of fire, did a workshop with Sebastian Guzman Olmos from the Eindhoven Design Academy on using ash as a material, and Olafur Eliasson provided us with his latest series of pictures about melting glaciers. Jewelry designer Corrina Goutos presents her experimental jewelry

This issue comes with a free poster with an illustration by Kimiya Justus.

Between 2010 and 2015, Some Magazine was already published very successfully and was sold internationally in independent magazine shops and museums. There were exclusive articles and contributions with international designers from various fields to discover. After a five-year break, Some Magazine is now starting up again under the direction of Prof. Sven Völker with a great editorial team of students from the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. The magazine will be published biannually in the future and now there is the unique opportunity to be part of the new issue #10 from the beginning.
