Brasilia #4 — Daughters and Sons / Töchter und Söhne

Where do we come from, and where will it all lead? For millennia, people have philosophised about their origins and the consequences of their family relationships. They have recorded their thoughts in the greatest works of world literature. In this fourth issue of Brasilia, designers search for small answers to these large life questions. Alexandra Panzert introduces the children of the Bauhaus and their careers, which could hardly be more contradictory. Photographers Mario Wezel and Suwah Lee visit fatherless daughters and sons at the Arctic Circle and in Southeast Asia. Katharina Krämer dreams of Spiderman riding a unicorn; Sebastian Moock examines his typographical forbears. While Jens Mahlstedt is bored with the descendants of musical masterpieces being played at the Berghain nightclub, Beate Spalthoff is inspired by a baby’s plate to start a relationship with a hairy daughter. On the following pages, Brasilia may shed new light on an old topic or provide a few entertaining moments while you read. In any case, this colourful issue again shows the diversity of our Brasilia family. We hope you can relate!

Von wem stammen wir ab, und wo führt das alles hin? Seit Jahrtausenden philosophieren Menschen über die Frage nach ihrer Herkunft, die Konsequenzen von Verwandtschaftsverhältnissen und bringen ihre Gedanken dazu in den größten Werken der Weltliteratur nieder. In der vierten Ausgabe von Brasilia suchen Gestalter*innen kleine Antworten auf diese großen Fragen des Lebens. Alexandra Panzert stell Kinder des Bauhauses und ihre Lebensläufe vor, die kaum gegensätzlicher sein können. Mario Wezel und Suhwa Lee besuchen vaterlose Töchter und Söhne am nördlichen Polarkreis und in Südostasien. Katharina Krämer träumt von Spiderman auf einem Einhorn, Sebastian Moock studiert seine typografischen Vorfahren. Und während Jens Mahlstedt sich mit den Nachkommen musikalischer Meisterwerke im Berghain langweilt, inspiriert Beate Spalthoff ein Babyteller, eine Beziehung mit einer haarigen Tochter einzugehen. Vielleicht wirft Brasilia auf den folgenden Seiten einen frischen Blick auf ein altes Thema oder liefert ein paar unterhaltsame Momente bei der Lektüre.
