solomiya № 2

soлomiya is a self-published magazine founded in April 2022 in response to Russia’s war against Ukraine. Artists from Kyiv and Berlin collaborated to make this magazine, which aims to promote the visibility of common democratic and European values shared by people from Ukraine and other European countries. Being a platform of self-expression for the young generation of creatives from Ukraine, soлomiya is both an itinerant group exhibition and an art object in itself.

Having established a distinct voice with the first issue of soлomiya, we continue to showcase the works of talented artists who reflect on the complexity and the urgency of the Ukrainian context. In the second issue, we invite you to appreciate artworks that were created in Kherson despite the russian occupation; to read the stories of Ukrainians who had to run from the war twice — in 2014 and 2022; to engage in conversations that explore the concept of the heroic and the language of witnessing; and to highlight perspectives that russia has been attempting to silence for many years. This magazine, created in Kyiv and designed in Berlin, is a testament to resistance through the means of art.
