Sebastian Menzke – Rising

How does the light get into the painting? Sebastian Menzke creates artworks, that think afresh about the light: many of them are made of transparent epoxy resin. The light is captured in a fascinating way, the beams penetrate the different colored layers to the ground of the picture, let it glow out from the inside: the title of the exhibition ‚Rising‘ captures this moment of shimmering and glowing, that seems like a tiny sunrise in the depth of a colored ocean. That the artist also masters the traditional use of light and shadow show his paintings on canvas - here he generates with dramatic light-dark effects an unprecedented atmosphere, an aura, that gives the works their unique appearance.
